WhatsApp has announced the launch of a new privacy feature called “Advanced Chat Privacy,” designed to enhance the security of personal messages and calls. This latest addition builds on the platform’s existing end-to-end encryption, which ensures that only the sender and recipient can access their conversations.

The new setting, available in both individual chats and group discussions, aims to prevent unauthorised sharing of content outside of WhatsApp. Users can now block others from exporting chats, automatically downloading media to their devices, and using messages for AI features. This provides participants with increased assurance that their discussions remain within the app.

WhatsApp emphasises that this feature is particularly useful for groups where users may not be closely acquainted but still need to share sensitive information, such as health support groups or community organising efforts.

To activate “Advanced Chat Privacy,” users can tap on the chat name and select the corresponding option. This is the initial version of the feature, with plans to expand its capabilities in the future. The update is currently rolling out to all users with the latest version of WhatsApp.
