OpenAI CEO Sam Altman piqued the curiosity of Indian users on the social media platform X when he praised the country’s AI adoption rates, and also shared an AI picture of himself playing cricket.

“[W]hat’s happening with ai adoption in india right now is amazing to watch. we love to see the explosion of creativity–india is outpacing the world,” posted Altman on X on April 2.

X users tried to understand why Altman was singling out India for compliments, with some asking the Perplexity or Grok chatbots for proof of his statements.

Altman in February visited India, where he had a fireside chat with IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. At the time, the OpenAI CEO said that India was the company’s second biggest market and stressed on its importance.

The founder’s more recent comments came days after OpenAI launched a GPT4o update that enabled people to generate more accurate images or illustrations of photos across a variety of artistic styles.

Altman further shared an anime-style picture of himself as a cricket player, wearing a Team India jersey.
