Qualcomm on Monday (February 24, 2025) launched the Snapdragon X platform for personal computers (PCs) having AI capabilities in the Indian market with a focus on ‘making PCs cool again for the Indian youth and that are more affordable.’

The Snapdragon X compliments the already running Snapdragon X Elite and Snapdragon X Plus processors but targets a rather affordable pricing for the Copilot+ AI PCs in world’s most populous country which the U.S. company believes has the appetite for gen AI systems.

The 4nm Snapdragon X platform has 8 high performance cores and it can deliver 45 tera operations per second (TOPS), with a 30 MB total cache, LPDDR5X RAM, 5G and Wi-Fi 7 support.

Interacting with The Hindu on the sidelines of the event, Savi Soin, SVP and President, Qualcomm India, said, “Snapdragon X is a chip enabled with gen AI capabilities in PCs priced below ₹100,000.” He added that this will increase the AI integration in affordable PCs which is a mirroring trend seen in smartphones.

On being asked about the starting price point for a Snapdragon X-run laptop, Savi added that it could be somewhere below ₹70,000. “I think, over time we will work with them (OEMs) to lower the price even further,” he added.

The Taiwanese brand Asus announced the launch of its first product powered by Snapdragon X, the Asus Vivobook 16, priced at ₹65,990, with 16 GB RAM, 512 GB storage, and 45 TOPS NPU.

Qualcomm is also working with IIT Gandhinagar and other Indian partners to expand the large language model (LLM) ecosystem, said Savi.

The OEMs like HP, Lenovo and Acer were also present during the Snapdragon X launch and they announced their respective portfolios with this chip.

Qualcomm announced that it has partnered with Flipkart Minutes to enable the delivery of Snapdragon X-powered devices within ten minutes in India.

Similarly, it had collaborated with Tata’s Croma where they can showcase their products under the ‘Snapdragon Zone.’
